Congratulations to all Home Brewers who entered our Summer Beer Competition!  The entries were so creative and diverse!  We hope you had fun coming up with your pineapple-y creations.

Special thank you to Dan Guy from Arcana Brewing, Mike Stevenson from Culver Beer Co, Chris Banker (Communications Officer for the Society of Barley Engineers and BJCP certified judge) and Clay Plummer (Past President for North County Homebrewers' Association (NCHA) and BJCP certified judge) for joining with us to provide your knowledge and expertise as judges!  

And, without further ado, the winners:

1st Place:   Jean-Paul & Guy Perrelet with their Belgian Saison with pineapple. ("Egg Shen's Magic Potion").  From the Judge's comments:  "The pineapple plays nicely with the Belgian clove component."  "Great saison base with a nice fresh pineapple flavor."  

2nd Place:  John Olive with his "Tropical" Imperial IPA.

Honorable Mention:  David Araiza with his Belgian Wit ("Pi Life")


Judging comments are available for pick up during our normal business hours.  

Start thinking about entering our next competition - make your best Strong British Ale - Wee Heavy, Category 17C.  (Judging will be according to the 2015 BJCP Guidelines.  Rules for the next competition with deadlines & other pertinent info will be posted here by the end of July.)

  • We will fill ANY 32 oz, 64 oz, 1 or 2 liter growler.  
  • 1 l. and 64 oz. growlers can be purchased at our brewery.  
  • We will fill blank growlers or growlers from other breweries.  
  • The growler to be filled must be CLEAN.  
  • We will cover any other brewery's markings with tape and/or our brewery label.  
  • If you have a blank growler, we will add our label.

Sunday, April 23!

12:30 pm - 1:30 pm -


Learn how to use BeerSmith to create your own home brew recipe, for all home brewing methods, including the GrainFather or another all-grain brew.  Includes how to make adjustments to recipes to create desired IBU's and ABV, and how to save to the cloud to take your recipe with you on your phone or other device.

Saturday, April 29!

11 am - 12:30 pm -

All Grain Brewing

Learn the basics of all-grain brewing and how it differs from extract & partial mash brews.  Also see a demo of the Grain-Father All Grain brewing system.  This system allows you to make a 5-gallon all-grain recipe in a small amount of space and simplifies your timing.  


12:30 pm - 2 pm -

Basic Brewing

Learn the basics of how to follow a home brew recipe, for extract & partial mash brews.  Also learn about gravity, including measuring gravity/ABV, pitching yeast, dry hopping.  You will help make a 5 gallon batch.  (This class will slightly overlap with the All-Grain Class immediately before.)  

Class Format:

 The Basic Brew Class will overlap with the end of the All-Grain Class which starts at 11 am.  You are welcome to attend either, or both.  Please feel free to leave to get lunch & return!  


This class is $10 to attend.  This includes a Handy Brew Guidebook, All-grain and/or Basic Brew demo & class, plus a General Beer Education class.
